With two games still left in the regular season, Bradford Dragons have now been confirmed as winners of the EBL division 3 [north] following a convincing 89 – 71 road win at neighbours Leeds Carnegie Seconds. Facing a strong and physical Leeds defence, Dragons shaded the first quarter to lead 16 – 13 at the break. Carnegie reduced a second quarter 13 point deficit but Dragons still lead 40 – 32 at the half. Despite a full court Carnegie press, Dragons also took the third quarter with an emphatic dunk on the break by Boycho Branzov bringing the crowd to its feet to lead 65 – 50 at the end of the third stanza. With Coach Mellor running the bench throughout, Dragons took all quarters to coast to a comfortable 89 – 71 win at the final buzzer.
For Dragons, Sean James top scored with 18 points, Vance Silcott and Craig Wilson each made 15 as nine Dragons players got on the score sheet.
After the game Dragons Coach Chris Mellor said, ‘I thought we came out a bit flat in the first half and conceded way to many easy scores. We were much better at both ends in the second half’.
Elsewhere for Dragons, Dragons U14 won 102 - 79 away at Oldham Titans, Dragons U16 crashed 42 – 92 away to York Vikings and Dragons 2 men lost 54 - 62 away to local rivals Leeds Tigers.
